This season the skijumping World Cup started in Klingenthal/GER for the first time. Normally the season starts in Kuusamo/FIN but this year they changed it to Germany. This season we won't have the "Team Tour" consisting of 2 comps in Willingen, Oberstdorf and one in Klingenthal, so it was also the first time that Klingenthal hosted two skijumping World Cups. It was awesome to be a part of the World Cup Opening and the atmosphere was great as usual in Klingenthal.
On Friday we had two training rounds and the qualification. Saturday was a team event. 14 Teams started and the competition was cancelled after only one round due to wind. So the Slovenians who were leading after the first round won ahead of Germany and Japan.
When I came to the hill on Sunday morning I already recognized that it was really windy. Not the best conditions to jump. They changed the start of the competition a few times, but there was still a lot of wind and it didn’t get better. So I decided to leave because I thought they would cancel the whole competition and I also had a long way to drive home. On my way home I heard that they really started the competition. I think it wasn’t a good decision to start, because the conditions were still bad. In the end we had a surprise winner with K.Biegun from Poland. He won ahead of Wellinger/GER and Tepes/SLO after one round as well.
All in all it was a very nice season start in Klingenthal with many spectators. I met a lot of nice people and had much fun.
