I just came home from an amazing weekend in Berlin. I went there for this years DFB Cup Final. My team Borussia Dortmund made it to the final again and I went there to support them. Like two years ago I had no ticket for the match, but the atmosphere in the city is always special, so I decided to go there again. I had a ticket for a public viewing together with 14.000 BVB fans, but unfortunately it was not like I expected. The video wall was very small so it was really difficult to see the ball or to recognize any players. We decided to leave before the end of the first half because it started to rain and we didn’t want to take a overfilled subway. We watched the end of the match in a restaurant and if we go there again for the final we’ll do it like that from the beginning on. ;) Unfortunately my team lost the match 2-0 after extra time. But actually we would have won after 90 minutes because a regular goal wasn’t given.
The trip started with a huge train delay in the morning. Actually we had a stay about 50 minutes in Kassel, but somehow the train stopped in the middle of nowhere and so we arrived in Kassel more than 30 minutes later – not that nice if you have planned to have breakfast at the train station. We had to hurry but luckily we were able to buy something to eat before we entered the ICE to Berlin.
When we arrived in Berlin at noon we went for our first sightseeing tour. We went to see Bellevue and after that we walked up the victory column. We had to take more than 250 steps to arrive at the top but the view over Berlin was really worth it! After that we walked to the Brandenburger Tor followed by a nice shopping afternoon. I always love to visit the Ritter Sport store – it’s just awesome. A real chocolate paradise! :) But I also recommend the famous Kurfürstendamm, it’s perfect for shopping. The day ended perfect with a visit at the Hard Rock Café.
Saturday started with lots of celebreties! If you’re in Berlin you have to visit Madame Tussauds. I went there for the second time and it’s always funny. They also had some new waxfigures and my personal highlight was to meet E.T.! :) Then we went to the Alexanderplatz for shopping and in the afternoon we enjoyed a coffee and donuts in the sunshine with a view of the TV tower, cathedral and the Neptun fountain. I guess theres nothing better.
On Sunday it was raining in the morning. But it wasn’t a problem because we planned a visit at Sea Life. The highlight was a ride at the Aqua Dome. It’s fascinating to be surrounded by tons of water and lots of fish! We had a great meal at a American restaurant and in the afternoon we discovered Berlin by boat. It stopped raining but it was really cooold at the top of the boat – anyway a nice end of a great trip!
I’ve added the photos to a new Berlin 2014 album and the photos of Madame Tussauds and Sea Life can be found in the Others section! Enjoy!
